The Draft is the first and, arguably, most important step in having a winning
CFFL team. Changes to Your Roster and Starting Line Up throughout the year are
critical to winning, but you must have a solid group to start with to avoid falling too
far behind the pack in your Division.
The best way to approach The CFFL Draft is to prepare. Find out what you
can about the incoming Players, changes the various college teams have made to their
Rosters, style of Offense, etc. Staff writers at The CFFL provide articles
throughout the year on the CFFL News page, and each prepares a
Draft Book giving their take on how and who to Draft.) Then, it's time for the gut
decisions, deciding who to write in as potential members of your team, and how
to rank them. For most
Owners, this is the longest part of the process. The most fun, too,
since for many of us this
part of Fantasy Football is the most fun!
When ranking your players, keep in mind that the best
player often faces the toughest competition (e.g., Heupel at Oklahoma or
Bennett at Wisconsin last season) and so their numbers are often not as
good as lesser known players at smaller schools. Do some checking
on the quality of players at the smaller schools, and you may find some
gems that other owners won't have on their lists. Put the big name
players high up on your list, so you have a shot at them, but stock the
middle and/or end of your list with quality lesser-known guys to round
out your team. Then, each week you can decide if the competition
your big name guys face that week is strong enough that you're better
off sitting them that week and starting one of the backups.
It's all a chess game when you're planning your draft board, and it
continues once the season kicks off!
