Fantasy BASEBALL

You become COACH AND MANAGER OF Major League Baseball's BEST!

Welcome to CFFL.com's
FANTASY BASEBALL
'HOW -TO'

Great Deal!

Welcome to Fantasy Baseball!

With CFFL.com Fantasy Baseball  you
draft your own team of real MLB players (AL or NL, or both) and use your baseball knowledge (and some luck!) to field the best combination of players each week.  You make the call -- who Starts on the mound, and who is there to relieve him;
who plays the field and who gets a shot
at the plate.

Your fantasy baseball team scores when the players you select score in real MLB action.  Your fantasy team's points are the total of the points earned by each member of your Starting Line-Up that week.  You Win if your team's points that week are better than the points earned by the team you are facing head-to-head.

Along the way you'll spend the season with other baseball fan(atic)s.  Enjoy the season from the fan's perspective and the competitive sports fanatic position with Fantasy Baseball.

Sign Up

The first step is Signing Up.  Select one, two or three teams for this season.  Put your teams in different regions, and compete against different groups of players from across the country.  Play an AL-only league, and a combination league to compete against fans of the 'other' league.  Or put all of your teams in the same region, to better your chances of Winning!  It's up to you.

Registration takes just a minute or two.  And then you're on your way!

After you register you will be placed in a region.  If you would prefer a different region, simply drop a line to the Commissioner's Office and we'll make the move (as long as your preferred region is not filled).

The Details

Your Roster

CFFL.com Fantasy Leagues use the innovative 'Complete Fantasy Draft' method of selecting teams.  You are not constrained by outcome of a Draft in the traditional sense -- only your own knowledge of the game.  Each week you select your Starters from all available MLB players (e.g., all AL players, if you are participating ni the AL-only league).  You start the players you think are the best bet to score well against the teams their MLB club faces in that week's action. You submit your lineup to the Commissioner's Office by Monday, 12:00 pm, and Rosters for that week's action are all posted Monday afternoon.  Check in to see who the competition chose to start that week,  and write down your head-to-head opponent's roster so you can keep track of how you are faring during the week.

Several teams in your region will play the same player -- but the fantasy manager who can select the best combination of players (especially if it includes players other managers didn't think to start) will be the one who comes out on top.  (If every team selects Junior Griffey, no one benefits from having Junior; but if one team selects a different OF who outperforms Junior that week, that manager beats everyone in that category that week!)

This method of drafting players puts the fantasy manager's skills to the true test.  Plus, it keeps everyone in reach of the top throughout the year.  (A poor Draft before the season can kill many teams, since the good players are all taken; our Draft method allows everyone to strut their fantasy sports knowledge and skill throughout the year, staying in the thick of things all summer!)

Start of the Season
To start the season, you draft (15) players.  This will be your Starting Lineup (12 players) for Week 1, plus your 3-person group of reserves
(your 'Dugout').

Starting Line-up
Your Starting Lineup will be made up of:

1 Starting Pitcher
2 Relievers
1 Catcher
1 1st Baseman
1 2nd Baseman
1 Shortstop
1 3rd Baseman
3 Outfielders
1 Utility Player (In AL leagues, this is your DH;
in NL leagues, this is an extra batter -- only
points associated with hitting are counted
toward your team total)

Dugout
Your Dugout can have three (3) players of any position; these players can be inserted into your Starting Lineup during the week, to take the place of a Pitcher, Infielder, or Outfielder who is hurt, or just isn't performing well enough for you.  (It is wise to have one player of each position in your Dugout, for obvious reasons; but, if you want to take the chance you can select an extra Pitcher and hope you don't have a need for a replacement Infielder, or an extra OF instead of a Pitcher, and so on.)

Scoring

Scoring is done in both an Overall Points format as well as Head-to-Head competition.

Points earned by your Starters (or Dugout Player inserted in place of a Starter during the week) count toward your team's Total Points.  The total of individual Points earned by your selected Players is your team's Weekly Points.  These get added to your total Overall Points to date, to give your new Overall Points total.

Your team's Weekly Points are compared to the Weekly Points of the team you are facing head-to-head that week;  if your team's points are greater than your opponents, you are given the Win for that week.

Points are assigned according to the following values:

Standings

Standings are determined first by Head-to-Head record, next by Overall Points.  Ties in head-to-head record are broken first by Overall Points record; next by the head-to-head record of the two teams in question.

Playoffs

Division leaders and one wild-card team (highest ranked team not winning their Division) advance to the Playoffs.

Playoffs are two weeks long -- two (2) highest scoring teams in week one advance to week two of Playoffs, and compete head-to-head in Points competition that week.  (Previous Points totals are not considered.)

Playoffs take place in the final two weeks of the season.

2000 Season:
Regular Season ends Sunday, September 3rd, (end of last game started that day);
First Week of Playoffs are Monday, September 4 through Sunday, September 10;
Final Week of Playoffs are Monday, September 11 through Sunday, September 17.

Meetings

While not required for participation in CFFL.com Fantasy Baseball, we encourage the establishment of Weekly Meetings for the Players in each league.  These Meetings can be utilized to convey information regarding the league, discuss past weeks' outcomes, and the like.  Fantasy Sports is engaged in for a fun and recreational purpose and we encourage our players to develop this with their co-participants.
